R.N.L.I Severn Class |
| The Royal National Lifeboat Institute provides an exceptional service to those who go to sea either for work or pleasure. Every vessel is built and equipped to the highest standard to enable the crew to use them with confidence in even the worst of conditions. The Seven Class is a 17 metre lifeboat with a service speed of 25 Knots. Its hull form is a single hard chine type with a deep skeg aft and a low freeboard amidships. The propellers are recessed in tunnels and are further protected by bilge keels. It is capable of seating up to 20 survivors. | ![]() |

| Construction
Methodology
The design uses a single skin hull bottom constructed of aramid and glass multiaxials and glass unidirectionals. The hull sides, deck and superstructure are of sandwich construction using varying core densities and thicknesses to provide the necessary structural properties whilst meeting the required weight and toughness levels. SP Technologies, working in close conjunction with R.N.L.I. engineers, produced a structure which, whilst relatively light in weight, provides adequate strength and minimum through-life maintenance costs. |
